Reception love EMI! Emi’s colours have been replicated in our regulation station and children are using them to identify their primary emotions/feelings.

This half term we have introduced the secondary emotions and children are encouraged to use this vocabulary. The books are lovely and the children enjoy colouring in Emi.

When Reception children transition into Year 1, they will be taking a couple of class Emi’s with them and we are hopeful that the children will continue to use and build upon the emotional vocabulary they have learned this year.

Building on this strong foundation is an important consideration for the future in years 2-6, and I have spoken to our SENDCO about the vocabulary used being consistent.

I recently held a parent transition event for our new Reception families and introduced them to EMI. Parents will continue to hear about both EMI and Headssup through stay-and-play sessions throughout the year. I recognise the importance of developing a shared language around emotions between home and school.

Thank you again for your support and for encouraging me to think about the longer term possibilities. It has been exciting to see the progress the children have made and I look forward to continuing next year.

Thank you so much for today’s Headssup session with Year 6. The children really enjoyed it and found it very informative and engaging throughout. They were fully involved and came away with a much clearer understanding of high school transition, which they particularly valued as they had a chance to reflect in great depth on what to expect next year.

The focus on wellbeing and emotional health was excellent and led to some really thoughtful and in-depth discussion with the children. It gave them a valuable opportunity to reflect on their own feelings and experiences in a supportive way.

The booklet provided was excellent and gave the children a clear structure to work through and reflect on what was being discussed. It helped to keep them engaged throughout the session, and it will be a very useful reference for them going forward.

On a personal note, you were very personable and had a lovely presence with both the children and myself. You built a brilliant rapport very quickly, and the way you remembered names and made each child feel acknowledged really helped them feel respected, comfortable, and confident to contribute.

Overall, it was a very positive and valuable experience for the class.
